Vintage Picnic Baskets

Vintage picnic baskets have become a big deal in recent years. Just like clothing and cares, old-fashioned products and goodies from the past seem to come back in style every few years, showing the stamina of certain styles over generations. Picnicking is no exception to this trend or rather anti-trending. Through auction sites and collector's guides, more and more are learning about old styles and finding ways to procure them and add them to their picnicking kit.

There are a few brands that stand out. These are Red-Man and Burlington. Aside from the brand name printed (or maybe scratched off after so years) on these items, it is their general style, found in many other older models, that excites people. Essentially, these items are made with woven wicker and with wooden flip tops. Though very simple, these models were very durable as is obvious since they are still being used. Also, the convenient lid served as a great mini-table for setting up wine glasses, plates, and such.

If you think you'd want to join in on the fun then check out many of the online auction sites and other classified services. As another option, many companies have begun to sell imitations of these old styles that look just as great, but won't be delicate. These also take advantage of many of the beneficial materials developed in recent years that make the baskets lighter and tougher. Best of all, these will most likely be very inexpensive comparatively and will last much longer. However, any collector knows it's not the same as the real thing.
