Red Man Picnic Basket

Red-Man Picnic Baskets were a line of baskets from many years ago that have now become vintage collectors items sought after by collectors and serious picnickers alike. These models have a great simple classic vintage look that is really wonderful to have as an option out on a picnic trip. However, these are hard to come by and require a bit of care, but they are worth the effort to procure if you're serious about picnicking. If you do happen to get a hold of one, be very careful with it, using it only sparingly or just as decoration as most models are very old and fragile, liable to easily break.

These models were made of simple woven wicker that led to a beautiful cross patter that is different than probably any model you'll see today. The base was made of a thick wood and the interior was lined with wood to keep unwanted dirt and sand out. The top was a simple flat wood flap. Despite the warning above, these were sturdy models made to be used. The flat top made them great for holding glasses and plates as a small mini table.

You can find one of these online, usually at auction or other sales sites under different combinations of the name such as Red Man, RedMan, or Red-Man. Look around, many sellers just happened to find one lying around and have no need for it. Be forewarned, you probably won't find one in perfect condition as most people took advantage of these old-fashioned baskets.
