If you plan on having any sort of event during the nice days of Spring and Summer involving food, then you're definitely going to need a portable cooler. These products will help chill your food, not just keeping it from spoiling, but also making sure that it is fresh and delicious when you are finally ready to eat. These days there are many options that you can use to make this happen. Each choice has its own benefits and drawbacks, of course.

The fanciest option is the electric cooler. These models plug into your car's electrical outlet and chill en route to your location just like a fridge. Once unplugged, these models function just like any ice chest would - they keep that cold air in and keep the hot air out. Being already chilled but not having to deal with mess of ice can be a great benefit. However, these models do require chilling time and they are more expensive.

Down from this are ice chests, which are filled with ice to chill the interior. The food is then set on top and held at a low temperature. These are the most straightforward models, but they do cause a bit of a mess. Additionally, only food that is tightly sealed and can handle the weight of the ice can be held inside.

The final option is insulated models. These units are not chilled, but do keep out hot air and keep cold foods just so. They are light and portable, a definite plus over the first two.
