Plastic picnic tablecloths are becoming much more common these days as people begin to realize the advantages they have for picnickers. These covers, because of their low cost of production, have become more common on store shelves. They do indeed offer many advantages over traditional cotton cloths; however these should be looked at in comparison before making any final decision on what to buy to make your picnic a little more enjoyable and comfortable.

Plastic, as said above, is much more inexpensive. This aside, there are a few other benefits that are worth noting. First, plastic is very easy to clean. These covers can be wiped or hosed down in a few moments than set out to quickly draw or simply toweled off before storing them away. Any leftover moisture won't cause mold, because they models don't have that ability. Second, many models come with elastic that can be used to easily fit your cover to your table with little trouble, which will keep it from flipping up whenever a gust of wind passes through.

Yet, there are a few drawbacks. Plastic clothes are very cold feeling. Cotton is much warmer to the touch and is more reminiscent of the traditional picnics of the past. If you don't happen to have elastic straps or clamps to hold the cloth down, plastic covers can tend to flip up much worse than cotton ones when the wind does blow because they lack friction to hold them down.
