Large picnic baskets are a necessity for any family or big party heading out to enjoy the fun of picnicking in beautiful weather. When it's more than just four people, you'll need something a little heftier than a simple basket that you can carry with one hand. Because of the increased size, you'll also need one that's light and very practical to use, because anything extra is just going to make an already heavy load, heavier, which is more stress and more work for something that's supposed to be relaxing. When looking around for a model that fits this description, keep a few things in mind.

First, choose light materials. Wood looks very nice and is old fashioned, but it's heavier and more prone to breakage than blended fabrics. These fabrics are tough, usually water resistant and can be stretched. Many of these models also come with wheels and a pull bar attached. This added convenience will take the weight off you and will make getting to and from where you are setting up your picnic much easier. There's nothing lazy in this - when you have a large group to feed, you don't want to be skimpy on the food.

Second, choose an insulated model. These models will keep the hot air out and keep cold food cold. Transporting a lot of food can take much more time, so your food has greater chance of being ruined in the process from heat. It also takes longer to serve and eat and many condiments and other accruement should be kept cool for the duration.
