French Picnic

A French picnic can sound a bit exotic. I mean, what do the French do that's so special? Well, it's not so much the French themselves but rather the food and accoutrements they serve at their picnicking events that make these events stand out. There are many accessories that can be found to help you enjoy a very classically European meal outdoors to enjoy the weather.

When people think France, they most often think wine, which is definitely a fun additive to any picnic. There are now many specialty hampers that hold and protect wine bottles, wine glasses, and keep accessories such as wine keys. Wine not only is delicious in its own right, but it also makes food taste much better.

The next thing people think is cheese. France has many wonderful cheeses that are now more widely available at major supermarkets than they were in the past. These include brie, camembert, and Roquefort. These can be eaten plain or on a piece of hearty crusty bread like a baguette (also a necessary food for any French-inspired picnicking excursion). Many companies sell especially compact cheese boards and kits that will keep your cheeses from being crushed during transportation. These also often contain cheese knives which are very handy to have around.

Aside from these traditional ingredients is the attitude. In France, food is an event and with time spent picnicking it should be treated as such. So relax, take your time and slowly enjoy what you have instead of just digging in and rushing home.
