Electric Coolers

The name electric coolers can sound a little odd. If you need a cooler while you're out camping, picnicking, or tailgating, it seems unlikely that you would have some place to plug it in right? So what's the point of getting one of these? Well, it doesn't exactly work that way. These models are indeed plugged into to get them generating cold air. However, they also serve as a cold box once they are chilled. Just like any ice chest you would fill up with ice, they keep the cold air in.

These also don't plug into the standard wall outlet, though they can. They are intended to plug into your car's cigarette lighter or dashboard outlet instead so you can keep your food cold while you are in route to your destination. This is great for tailgaters since they often need the lowest temperatures for raw meats and their vehicle is with them the entire time.

For picnickers and campers, many models have been designed for these specific activities. These models come with shoulder straps and extra pockets to help reduce the load of carrying them as you would a normal ice chest. You can also find these models in a huge variety of sizes and styles, from miniature to full sized models. What you choose all depends on your party size and appetite.

When using one, read the instructions to determine how much cooling time the unit needs to be well chilled before taking it out. While the unit will protect hot air from getting in, you also need to make sure it's cold inside in the first place.
