Divided Picnic Plates
Divided picnic plates are a great choice for when you go picnicking and start to serve up your food. Not just for children (but still ideal for that age group), these plates can be a practical way to enjoy summer food without having it all spill together. This is especially true for many of the classic picnicking foods, because they are so different in texture and temperature that you wouldn't want them touching.
For example, barbecues are a big part of picnicking for many people. With this comes food like baked beans, sloppy Joes, and even steaks with sauce. This is often paired with fresh Spring or Summer vegetables or fruit that is delicious precisely for its coolness and crispness. Imagine, fresh slices of peach covered (at least partially) with bean juice. It sort of takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?
Picnicking is also a great chance to try out new recipes and part of the fun of these is being able to appreciate the ingredients as they arm. Fresh vegetables like arugula mixed with radishes, goat cheese, pine nuts, and a red wine vinaigrette is a delicious recipe, but it begins to lose its satisfaction if a hot piece of meat turns the vinaigrette into slop.
Children may lack the culinary sensibility to have such qualms. However, many children can be picky eaters so two foods touching each other may just be enough to set a child off on not eating it all. It's best to play it on the safe side.
