Burlington Picnic Basket

A Burlington picnic basket is a classic style of basket that was very popular decades ago. With good reason though, these models are a very simple looking wicker design that is also very practical. These much sought after items have found their way onto auctions and other sales listings, because of resurgence of interest in old styles from years past. This vintage look is a great way to add a hint of style and function to any of your picnic outings or to use around the house for decoration.

As said above, these baskets were wicker, a couple feet long and maybe a foot high in size. There were usually oval in shape and featured a simple flip top and wood handles. While there was nothing fancy to these models, the wood and natural colors they were painted did give a sense of warmth to and otherwise simple accessory. They were still nonetheless made of strong wood with a lined interior that would prevent things like sand and dirt from getting inside the unit when set down.

This look has become highly desirable, but if you do happen to come across one of these, it might be best to use it either very sparingly or just for looks. Because many of the models are decades old, their practicality is diminished and you may find yourself with a broken basket very quick if you use it often. Because of their popularity, companies may begin to make imitations some day as they have with other classic style products from the 40s and 50s.
